2012 engagements
Bookings are coming in for the 2012 season, so watch this space for details in the spring. Now is the time to book for this summer!
2011 engagements
After the mad rush of 2010, in 2011 we were able to introduce a great new programme, and got to support some great community events. Our first annual Spring Concert at Chesterton Community College was a sell-out, and along with VOX from Parkside School and the CSD Training Band, we gave everyone a great night. In the Summer, we played to support the fund-raisers at Oxfam Walk for Life, and enjoyed summer fêtes with Oxford Road Residents’ Association, Friends of Histon Road Recreation Ground, and our old friends at St. Giles’ Church.
The second half of the turned out to be just as busy. Alongside a schedule of carol concerts at local churches, we also played for outdoor events at venues in Cambridge such as Chesterton Recreation Ground and Mill Road.
2010 review
2010 saw the band take a strong Summer programme to venues all over Cambridgeshire in June and July, in Witcham, Ramsey, and Cambridge itself. In particular, we played a very challenging date in Ely where we amassed a respectable audience despite competition from an England game in the World Cup. Another special event was in Peterborough, where we shared a stage with a show of historical military vehicles, while inside the Cathedral grounds was a fair of medieval arts and crafts. The award for best turnout, though, has to go to the residents of St. Neots, who turned out in their hundreds to enjoy two hours of music on one of the hottest days of the year.
2009 review
2009 started off with the première of Hatfield Procession at a gala concert in St. Augustine’s Church, Cambridge. We were also given the opportunity to participate in the University of Hertfordshire’s Mayfest, a fortnight-long arts and music festival featuring artists of international reputation. We played a concerto composed for the event by the Director of the festival, Howard Burrell, along with ‘Cabaret Concerto’ by Martin Ellerby, commissioned by our Musical Director, Philip Mead, as part of a research project.
These special events came on top of our usual programme of concerts and our biennial visit to our partner band in Heidelberg, Germany, making 2009 a busy year for CSD.
